What desirable trait of a scientist if he believe in cause and effect and not in superstitious beliefs?

All modern scientists are politically motivated to meddle with the history or religion according to their gains.Don't you hear so much.I understand its wise to get rid of superstitions,but political masters have time and again used things such as beliefs and superstitions as a weapon to attack other religions and cultures.
