Does the random destructive power of tornadoes make Americans superstitious and or religious?
Sailors are very superstitious people and always have been. This is because of the random and unpredictable oceans they travel on. When people live in situations where they could be alive and carefree one minute but dead the next, they tend to believe in wacky stuff and have wacky customs and rituals. Anything to give them peace of mind. Do you think this explains why Americans who live in tornado territory tend to be quite religious? Do you think it's a coping strategy people use when faced with the awesome and unpredictable power of tornadoes?
