Into which group would I belong?
Many years ago I was baptized and confirmed as a Roman Catholic. I have never practiced the religion and rarely, almost never, go to church because I haven't liked the rituals of the church or the requirement to confess my sins to another man. My sins are likely much less serious than the sins of the man listening. As I get older I feel that I should join a church. I believe in God. I believe that Jesus was His Son. I believe that I will join my loved ones in a nice place when I die. I believe that organized religion is a money making business. I don't believe that any church official should have a say in my actions or those of my family. I believe in fate. I believe in ancient aliens and their effect on humanity. I believe in the ten commandments. I value all life, though I eat meat. I am a skeptic and often question the motives of businesses, doctors, and politicians. I love the USA but I'm ashamed that our founding fathers were slave owners and traders. I trust our government and respect our laws. I respect the right of people to worship as they believe and I respect people who do. Jehovah's Witnesses? I've never met one that I didn't like. Evangelists? No thank you. Jews? Jesus was one and I love Jesus. Muslims? I have high regard for their sacrifices but disgust at the lack of equal human rights for women and their disdain for other religions. I am ignorant about the teachings of the bible. I feel the bible was written by superstitious ancestors of today's middle easterners. I surely don't believe that the bible should tell me how to live my life. I believe that the Bible provides information that is important but such information has surely been embellished, exaggerated, misinterpreted. I know that this question exposes my ignorance and lack of education in religion and history. I've been told that I am most like an Agnostic; surely not an Atheist. Is there common grounds for me in any religion or church?
