I don't think maggots mean anything superstitious. I couldn't find anything online except an old Vietnamese superstition that says if you don't eat all your rice, you will go to hell & be forced to eat maggots, lol. But I don't think that applies here. It seems like you probably have a small dead animal somewhere in your house. Possibly in the walls, floors, crawlspace, somewhere. Could be a mouse, rat, snake, small bird, any number of things.
